Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
